In Patient Facilities
Our spacious, well ventilated secure stable yard has five boxes including a mare and foal box. Keeping the inpatient facilities small allows us to provide the close monitoring and quiet rehabilitation environment that we believe is crucial in minimising the stress of a stay away from home.
If turn out is required, Llansabbath Barns has 7 acres of permanent pasture which can also be used for exercise testing of our cardiac, respiratory and pre-purchase examination cases.
We have permanent, purpose built equine stocks to allow safe restraint.
The spacious diagnostic imaging department is fully equipped with high resolution ultrasonography and an AGFA digital x-ray system (as used by the NHS and Edinburgh Veterinary School). Unlike many practices diagnostic imaging has its own dedicated rooms and so multiple veterinary surgeons can be working at the clinic at one time reducing the waiting-around time for clients and horses.
The practice has 2 endoscopes for the examination of the upper respiratory tract and urogenital system and we are particularly proud to offer the services of Dr Tim Brazil RCVS Specialist in Equine Medicine, who is a regular visitor to our clinic for the advanced investigation of medical conditions.
Surgical Suite and Induction Room
We are very fortunate to have separate
induction and surgical facilities. The induction area is supplied by the
premier manufacturer in Europe: Linatex. This ensures that your horse will be
as safe as possible during induction and recovery from anaesthesia.
Due to Emma’s
influence on the design of the clinic our orthopaedic facilities are a priority
and as a result are excellent. We have an arena for lunging/riding, 2 hard lunge areas of different surface and extensive grounds to allow
high speed assessment. State of the art cell manipulation techniques such as
IRAP and stem cell therapy can be thoroughly discussed and offered if suitable.
Combined with the diagnostic imaging available, the further training and tens
of years of orthopaedic experience of our staff, lameness evaluation at Abbey
is a real strength.
Abbey Equine Clinic is able to perform routine biochemical and haematological examination in the clinic allowing same day results for crucial tests. Bacteriological culture and antibiotic sensitivity can also be performed in our own lab, particularly useful during the stud season as mares never seem to want to cycle during office hours!
Most advanced tests are performed by Axiom Laboratories who have a courier pick up from us every day, so we do not have to rely on the post.
A daily courier service is available to an external laboratory for a quick turnaround of results. We have a close relationship with Beaufort Cottage Laboratory, Liphook Equine Hospital and the Animal Health Trust for more specialist tests and advanced interpretation of test results.
