If you think this sounds like the level of service that your horse deserves then register now online or give us call and come and visit the clinic for a tour of the facilities.

Equine Health plans

Please note that as of the 01st January 2024 a number of equine federations (British Dressage, Pony Club, Riding Club, FEI) are following suit with British Horse Racing Authority and are amending the timescales for the initial flu vaccination course to be administered as follows:

1st vaccine given

2nd vaccine: due between 21 and 60 days after 1st

3rd vaccine: due between 120 and 180 days after 2nd

All federations are currently advising a maximum of 12-month intervals and not within seven days of a competition however are strongly recommended that the most recent booster injection is given within six months if competing. This will vary depending on the governing body you intend to compete with so please check this before attending competitions.

Horses which have completed their primary course before 01st January 2024 are permitted to have an interval of up to 92days between the first (V1) and second (V2) vaccination of the primary course and for the first booster (V3) an interval of up to 7 months following the date of the administration of vaccination V2.

Update – Sarcoid Treatment Offer January – March 2024

At Abbey Equine we have a wide variety of options for the treatment of sarcoids. We have our own diode laser and surgical facilities allowing us to complete this treatment ourselves. We also have regular visits from Jeremy Kemp-Symonds, BA (Hons), BSc (Hons), MSc, BVMS, MRCVS who is an expert in the field of sarcoid treatment and allows us access to the most up to date and effective therapies available for our patients.

From 15th January to the 15th March we are offering 10% reduction in our laser sarcoid removal prices*

*This discount will only apply to certain cases that do not need specialist intervention. Case selection and authorisation will be completed by our veterinary surgeons. Abbey Equine Clinic retains the right to remove this offer at any time.

Information on laser sarcoid removal:

A major benefit of laser surgery is the reduced risk of contaminating the surgical wound with tumour cells as the laser damages tumour cells on the border of lesions helping to prevent the sarcoid recurring.

The laser also works to seal off the wound bed and any blood vessels.

This prevents bleeding, but does mean that these wounds must be left open to heal by ‘secondary intention’.

The surgical wounds initially look unsightly, but typically they heal well, with a good cosmetic outcome and a reduce chance of recurrence compared to surgical removal alone. Laser surgery may be performed under standing sedation or general anaesthetic, depending on the number, size, and extent of the sarcoids present.

The typical location of many sarcoids often necessitates a general anaesthetic to ensure full visualisation of the sarcoids so the surgeon can obtain adequate margins whilst maintaining patient and clinician safety.

One further benefit of laser surgery is that all sarcoids can typically be removed in one fell swoop, avoiding the need for multiple repeat veterinary visits (such as to apply topical creams).
